Bishop Aloysius Kiiza and the Lift Up Jesus Global Ministries have responded to Gods mandate to deliver 100 conferences by 2049 by descending on Kanungu District for the 1st Regional Annual World Revival Conference (RAWRC) and indeed Gods power and glory were witnessed in a 4 day conference christened The Kanungu Glory Invasion.
It was a prophetic bold move to begin in Kanungu district representing the Kigezi region which has a rich revival heritage and was a portal for the great East African Revival which begun in the 1930s and the revival fires spread from there throughout the East African nations to the rest of the world.
It is well known that the Tukutendereza song that became an anthem for the East African Revival had its roots in this revival.
At the dawn of year 2000 Kanungu shocked the entire world when over 1,000 members of the so called ‘Movement for the Restoration of the 10 Commandments’ led by Joseph Kibwetere, Credonia Mwerinde and Father Kataribabo were locked in what served as their church and were set ablaze, all perishing in the now infamous inferno.
In the aftermath of the fatal blaze hundreds of bodies were unearthed in mass graves in properties belonging to the occult leaders in various parts of the country.
The congregants had been told by their leaders that the world was coming to an end and that although fire and brimstone would fall upon the earth and consume the rest of humanity, they would be untouched by the fire. Their activities were shrouded in secrecy and the members forced to communicate in sign language with communication to the outside world prohibited. They were later burned to ashes.
While delivering an emphatic declaration as he opened the conference Bishop Aloysius Kiiza described the events linked to the inferno as high level occultism and witchcraft involving human sacrifice and the shedding of blood that the devil had intended to use to hold the region and the nation of Uganda and the wider Great Lakes region captive under a spell of darkness.
Speaking with apostolic authority Bishop Kiiza reminded the congregation how as a result of the events surrounding the Kibwetere fire, Kanungu had been closed off for more than 7 years from the gospel of Jesus Christ with churches closed, pastors and evangelists beaten and arrested for gathering together to pray, overnight prayers, meeting and public crusades were banned, such was the hostile environment that cloaked the land.
Members of the Ugandan Parliament even went to the extent of suggesting a ban of Pentecostal churches in Uganda but the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni objected and defended the born again Pentecostal churches pointing out that there was a clear difference between cults and true born again Pentecostal churches.
This is the kind of persecution that gave birth to the National Born Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda (NAFBAC) in which Bishop Aloysius Kiiza sits in the Council of 24 Elders where he serves as Secretary. NAFBAC provides oversight to over about 50,000 churches in Uganda.
In 2006 during one of the Annual World Revival Conferences held in Kabale Uganda, Pastor Sarah Kyomuhendo (now Bishop) led a delegation of fellow pastors from Kanungu District. As christian gatherings in Kanungu were banned this was one of the few gatherings that allowed them to freely express their faith in fellowship with others.
Pastor Sarah Kyomuhendo recalled that every time Bishop Kiiza mounted on the pulpit, the spirit of the Lord spoke to her and said ‘What can save Kanungu is on that man’.
She had never met Bishop Kiiza in person and so she gathered all the Kanungu pastors and told them what God was saying to her. They took 3 days during the conference and went into prayer and fasting for clarity from God and also that Bishop Kiiza would agree to their request.
When they talked to Bishop Kiiza, like Paul in the Bible, he heard the Macedonian call and he had to respond. In turn the Lord told him to mobilise the church to fast and pray. He demanded a list of all the Kanungu pastors and their congregants where they mobilised teams to fast and pray for 14 days. In Kabale at Lift Up Jesus they fasted with them. He then promised them that he would go to Kanungu.
When the set day came they went to Kanungu. Before the Kanungu trip, in a dream Bishop Kiiza had seen himself leading people, marching through a street in triumph and victory. So when they got to Kanungu they made a Jesus march to the site of the Kibwetere fire. This shocked Kanungu residents because they remembered the subsequent death of a Reverend after he visited the site and from then people believed there was curse there.
On the fateful Saturday, the church mobilised for a prohetic militant invasion on the powers of darkness and witchcraft. Bishop Kizza shared scriptures about making the Jesus march a prophetic action, a prophetic prayer boldly marching to the Kibwetere site to ravage all that was at the shrines.
The mood among the people was electric and they got branches to march with on a beautiful sunlit day. In a rare move Bishop Aloysius Kiiza had also received an officially signed letter of invitation from the district leaders and so the march started off from the district headquaters.
They started off the march with powerful praise and along the way it became obvious that there was power at work as the enthusiasm became irrestitable and everyone was galvanised, as if obeying a command people left whatever they were doing to join the march regardless of their religious affiliations, Catholic, Anglican, Muslim, everyone joined in.
What did happen was quite dramatic as retold by several eyewitnesses.
Bishop Aloysius Kiiza recounts that it was good for him that he had no idea of the confrontation with deep seated occultism and evil forces that awaited him. This was why everyone was a bit shocked that there was a man who could dare to go there because people associated the place with demonic curses. When they still remained with about half a kilometer to reach the site Bishop Kiiza advised that they should wait for those behind to reach them because the multitudes of people had stretched out as far as the eye could see. Suddenly, in a flash of understanding he remembered the dream and now understood its significance and what God was saying to him.
He was immediately taken in another dimension and was infused with vigor, fire and passion and could hardly wait to reach the site. When they did eventually reach the site, all the anger of the christians who had found themselves unable to express themselves for 7 long years exploded out as they all started praying as if they were face to face with something. This was undoubtedly their time. They were throwing off the cloaks of captivity and freedom had come, slavery and darkness could no longer rule the place. The sound was akin to a swarm of bees in the air, such was the demand for the taste of freedom.
At this point a pastor pointed out a place to Bishop Kiiza telling him that it was an altar where the parents of Credonia Mwerinde were buried and it was the altar upon which the church that consumed lives had been built.
It was set upon a high ground but Bishop Kiiza relates that he cannot remember how he leapt up, it was as if he had been carried. He jumped on it with such anger and began to tear down and destroy every spirit of occultism, strengthened by what God had revealed to him about the human sacrifice and seeing it face to face infused him with supernatural strength as he destroyed the strongman, witchcraft and sorcery by the blood of Jesus!
By then Kanungu was steeped deep in witchcraft and witchdoctors held sway over the land.
In one of his characteristic fiery sermons Bishop Kiiza called on the witchdoctors to repent and come to the saving grace of the Lord or else it would be hard times for them as God had declared judgement on them.
In the following week 4 witchdoctors dropped dead.
God had indeed judged the witchcraft and sorcery in the land and the gospel was finally free.
Fast forward to 2025 and Kanungu became the launchpad for the 100 conferences mandated by the Lord!
Amos 8:11 NIV
““The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.”
The conferences impact on the land was tremendous in power and impact with the body of Christ being reunited in purpose and over 40 Kanungu pastors commissioned.
In a land still steeped in superstition and witchcraft there was a palpable hunger for the word of God!
Salvation came to hundreds to the glory of God and destinies of thousands of people were transformed.
If this is the level of demonstration of Gods power at the beginning of the conferences then one can only imagine what God has in store for His people in the days ahead!
